The Hunger Games

In film enrichment, myself and my class watched  a hybrid film called 'The Hunger Games' that falls under the category of action, adventure and sci fi. This film was directed by Gary Ross and stars Jennifer Lawerence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

The Hunger Games is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen who sacrifices herself to take part in the 'hunger games' instead of her sister. By volunteering to take her sister's place in the 'hunger games' Katniss has to fight for her life in order to win the 'hunger games' and be reunited with her family and her district.

I enjoyed watching this film as it showed how quickly people turn to savages when they have to save their own lives. I also enjoyed this film as it doesn't use the typical action convention of the protagonist being male, in this film Katniss plays the protagonist who saves the 'damsel in distress' which is comically Peeta. I found this comically as usually its the male who saves the female but in this case its the female who saves the male.
