Grade
The grade I received for this task was C Which is on my target grade of a C
Targets to Improve
To improve this work I need to: -Add more screen grabs -Have less lengthy sentences -Have more films as comparison in conventions table
This is an assignment I had to do with my partner where we explored a film from a specific genre and ours was the thriller genre. The work in blue is my work and the work is red is my partner's work.
I read an article from media magazine that discussed how the representation in the contemporary hip hop is changing. What I found interesting about this article was how the common conventions of hip hop videos such as images of crime and violence which is shown through mis-en-scene and fixation on money and wealth is no longer a dominant ideology within the hip hop culture as modern era artists such as Drake, Frank Ocean and Childish Gambino challenge these conventions through their music videos as well as their lyrics and their fashion in clothing.
From reading this article I've learnt that the hip hop tradition of 'thuggishness' is slowly losing its value as in today's era a "a hip hop artist can be pictured wearing glasses and a cardigan" whereas in the 1990's hip hop artists would wear "ostentatious jewelry and tank tops" to emphasize their masculinity and do rags to suggest their involvement in the gang culture.
This article also highlights how music is constantly changing within its different genres.
My interim report grade is a C
This is below my target grade as my target grade is a B. I am happy with this grade as with a few improvement I'll be able to achieve my target grade
These are my targets to improve my grade:
1.Complete my work by its deadlines
2.Go to the teacher if I don't understand a task or assignment
3.Do all my work to the best of my ability
For this task my group, members included myself, Monae, Jhane and Fatou
My group completed and wrote a film review which is called 'The Struggle'
Firstly, each person wrote their own paragraph and underneath each paragraph their name is at the end of the paragraph.
Fish tank is no different from any other of the typical drama films.Director Andreas Arnold presents a typical melodramatic teenager with dreams and aspirations who is blocked by a glass ceiling-her poverty. Arnold uses the theme of poverty to make the audience aware of what real life Britain entails.Mia (the main character) goes through hard fights with her family which leads her to spend her time isolated in a deserted flat where she pursuits her dream of becoming a dancer. In addition to the twists, turns and turmoils of the main characters life, the saucy stepfather who started to fall for, the plot took a turn for the worst but the most interesting.

The film fish tanks is about a young troubled teenager played by Katie Jarvis who lives the stereotypical views of life within a council flat and due to the isolation from peers and family, the main character Mia seeks a sense of freedom and the sense of security(dance). Before watching the film, I had watched elements of the film via the trailer and my views on the view was that there may have twisted relationships which may be classed as inappropriate and wrong. After watching the film,my feelings have not changed after watching this film but instead confirmed what I was thinking and expanded on my thoughts on different relationships and her relationships with others.Mia's relationship is very distant as her mum is not affectionate towards her but instead gives the essentials which is needed. For example no love is shown within her family unit but instead replaced by swearing at her.Through this it is mimicked through her little sister as she's influenced by her surroundings and family members/peers.Shortly following Connor(her new Step-father) allows Mia to feel and have a sense of hope as he gives her the affection which she has been seeking and allows her to be herself taking down the defensive mechanism. Issues with the relationship is that the relationship which he expressed was not a father and daughter relationship but instead a more intimate relationship which was not beneficial as she is underage and is the step daughter. This is a prime example of twisted relationships which occurred within the film Fish Tanks and allowed me (being only one of the audience) to feel a variety of feelings towards the film in general whether it was sympathy, anger, relief etc.

The scene setting shots are charmingly exquisite, as if made from a 'Skins' episode without the teenagers. As it is a straight forward attitude, the plot is able to move forward and tell a story to the audience of what and how real life entails and the cultural state at the moment in what were living in.Most British films go deep into their depth to find a way to preach to the audience whilst the enriching style of the film makes it flow,it adds extra drama continuously.

This concludes to why you should watch this niche film.It is a intriguing drama film, that some people will find they have some through in reality and also will lift you off your seats and take you on an ongoing, most likely an unstoppable flight. As the audience you will feel sorrow for Mia (Jarvis) and want to know what happens in the next step in her life because of the strong story line. There will be parts when you laugh, cry and hold on tight.

Next, we each recorded ourselves reading our paragraph using photo booth on my iPad
We then uploaded out video onto YouTube by firstly signing up to YouTube and then uploaded our video on the unlisted category
Next we copied the embedding code from YouTube and embedded the YouTube video, below is the video clip of myself and the rest of my group reading and recording our individual paragraphs of the fish tank review.
Below is my assessment record which is all my grades so far in media. My current grade is a grade C2.
To improve in media, I need to do the extensions task in my assignments, go to the teacher for help if I don't understand the task and go into more detail in my assignments.
On the 23rd of October as a class trip we went to Odean cinema in Convent Garden to watch a Oscar winning film called 'A Separation'. I found this film interesting as it was different from the usual films I watch. 'A Separation' is an Iranian drama film that is based around a fragmented family with problems such as finding a carer to take care of the ill grandfather and ensuring the daughter of the family does well in school.
Even though the film was in Iranian and came with English subtitles, I found this film really interesting as it showed the problems within the Iranian society such as gender issues. Nevertheless, even though the film came with English subtitles the fact that the entire film was in Iranian meant you had to constantly follow the words on the film in order to understand it.
Overall, I found this experience to Odean cinema to watch 'A Separation' helpful as it has given an insight of the Iranian society.
My target grade in media is a grade C. So far in media studies, I think the following things are going well: I've given in all homework assignments on time and my blog is up to date and all posts on my blog is in the correct order. To improve in media, I need to: Be more detailed with my work and complete targets given by my teacher.
Thinking about my overall performance and considering the grades I have received so far, I think I am working at a grade C level.

Some of the main themes (topics) in the film are poverty, sexism, discrimination and predujice

I really liked the character
‘Anthony' who was played by Ludacris because despite his unstable background of crime and violence he changed for the better in the end of movie and didn't take part in trafficking those Chinese people instead he refuse the money offer and set them free.
e)
My favourite scene in the film was when the little girl ran in front of her dad (the mexican locksmith) to protect him from getting shot this is my favourite scene because that scene show how the much faith the little girl had in her father's story about the angel
